- German Baseball Team Needs American Players
- The Kaiserslautern Bears are looking for some American baseball players to
round out their team and to help them advance to the next division of the
German baseball league. In particular, they are looking for pitchers and
infielders. There may also be some openings for players on the Bears youth
team (12 to 16 years of age).
If you are interested, contact Karsten Kalbheim, at Kalbheim@gmx.de Karsten
and many of the players speak English, so don't let language keep you from
trying out for the team or at least going to one of the practices to see if
this might be for you this summer. If you enjoy baseball, broaden your
cultural experiences while here in Germany and consider playing for the
Bears.
In addition, the team is in the process of developing a new baseball field
and are looking for some helpers. If interested, again please contact
Karsten.
The remaining schedule for the Bears this season is below, with the home
games having the Bears listed first in the match-up. All home games are
played at the VFR soccer club (see directions below) and begin at 2pm.
Please do consider helping the hometown Bears become a better team of
America's sport, baseball.
Thank you.

(Driving directions):
From the Kaiserslautern Zentrum (formerly Ost) exit of autobahn 6, drive in
the direction of the Stadtmitte. Soon on the left side, you will see the
UCI movie theaters. At the far end of this building, take a left at the
traffic light onto Donnersbergstrasse. Follow this street for about a
mile until, with the Volkspark on your left, you will come to T in the road
(actually you can continue forward, but if you do, you will end up in a
sportsfield area).
Make a right turn and shortly this street will be named Barbarossastrasse.
Follow this street until you come to a traffic light with a left turn
lane and a sign showing the way to the soccer stadium. (A Lidl grocery
store will be on the right and a General Dynamics plant on the left.) Turn
left here (street named Kantstrasse), under a railroad track bridge and
soon afterwards, you will see the sign and driveway entrance
on your left for the VFK sports club. Turn in here, up the hill, bear left
at the top and you end at the parking lot of the sports fields.
